happy carving

It is that time of year once again, when my holiday-loving relatives begin feeling festive, embrace fall, and determine that Thanksgiving is simply too far away. So they make up a holiday in between and everyone (as in everyone in the family or who might like to be in the family) comes. What a solution!

This particular holiday is known as Pumpkin Carving Day and is 4 years old today...

There is always a bonfire, homemade pie, and hide and seek. Oh, and wassail of course! After the pumpkins are carved, we put candles inside and they light the path to the bonfire where we make s'mores. My other favorite thing about this particular holiday, is that it's usually the first time I find it cold enough to wear cozy scarfs and mittens.

I'm not certain if all relatives are like this, or if it's just mine, but I adore them and their inventive ways all the same.
