into the wild

It makes me happy to report that our camping trip was a success. I have to admit that the adventure was quite different than I had anticipated, but splendid nonetheless...

We arrived quite a bit later than expected due to the fact that we may have slightly underestimated the preparation required to rough it... who would have thought! Well, this minor oversight left little daylight for pumpkin carving so we set up tents, started a fire and became official campers (saving our lovely pumpkins for another night).

So after hamburgers roasted over the camp fire (thanks to the wire cooking contraption my family let us borrow), fruit, chips with homemade guacamole, and... of course... wonderfully sticky s'mores, we were off to the tents...

The trip wouldn't have been complete without scary animal sounds in the woods, waking up to the cool morning air, and biscuits cooked over the rekindled campfire for breakfast.

Oh, and in addition, I was reminded of an incredibly interesting phenomenon: men love fire! They love it. It's true. I don't know why. I do, however, know that after Jason finished constructing a tent, eating meat, and building a fire, this moment happened. I think it epitomizes my theory and I simply had to share it!
