pre-house project #1

Today was a big day. We have decided on preliminary paint colors (none of which are the same as those we began with).

Side Note: We found 3 of our 4 winners at our neighborhood Stewart Brothers Do It Center and let me just tell you - we LOVE this place. It felt like going to a country hardware store and the people there were remarkably helpful. Nothing against you Lowe's or Home Depot, we still like you folks too (especially you HD), but there's just something a little more personal about Stewart Brothers that we love. (I'll post pictures of our final colors once we can get them on the wall.) Anyways, the point of all that is how looking at paint again for the 400th time made want to pick up a brush, roller, whatever and go nuts. I've been trying to reign myself in for the past week and still have 1 month and 1 week to go. So I gave myself a preliminary project, and THIS my friends, is the point of this post.

I am painting a mirror for our half bath. The general "house style" that we lean towards is very northeast cottage/costal/rustic - thus the muted blue-gray-green theme that we can't seem to get away from. The half-bath color of choice is Valspar's Shallow Tide. Here is the picture that inspired us.

We love how fresh and lovely this color looks with neutrals. Therefore, we decided to repurpose an old, basic black, rectangular mirror that came with J's bedroom set. It's been living in a corner, leaned up against the wall, for the past 8 months because it's a bit too matchy-matchy to work in our bedroom. Considering that I'm very much against the mirrors that usually come standard in bathrooms, I decided to make our outcast mirror a perfect fit. I'm painting it with Behr's ultra premium plus (paint+primer in one) in Pure White. A little sanding, cleaning, and 2 coats of paint later it's not looking too shabby!

Pictures to come. . . I still have 2 coats to go =)
