this morning

I woke up to my baby boy nestled right up against me, cozy under our quilt. The morning and night air has been chilly enough for me to see my breath and bring on cravings for wassail and smores. Yesterday morning was the first time it was cold enough for steam to rise up off the fence - and those orange and yellow woods as a backdrop - absolute m a g i c.

It was E’s first time to a pumpkin patch. He tried to chew on every. single. one.

Its so funny to me that when he was still super fresh, people would come up to me and say “Oh, enjoy this part! This is when they’re sweet and easy!” like it was all down hill from there. Which it SO hasn’t been. Little buddy, every day since you’ve been in our lives has only been better than the one before. Partly because we’re figuring it out as we go, and partly because the older you get the more fun you are. 

I love fall and Thanksgiving and Christmas, but the beginnings of my favorite season this year has been so different. It’s been more fun than any before it and I have so much happiness and anticipation inside and the very thought of a mitten or christmas light I could explode. We started listening to Christmas music weeks ago and bought our first Christmas presents in October. And not just because we’re the sacrilegious type that start celebrating Christmas before Thanksgiving is over, but because we're so excited to be celebrating and sharing all of our favorite things with you, little fella, and we just want a few extra days to soak it all in before we blink and it’s over.

These days you laugh in your sleep and rub your feet together like cricket when you’re excited and think your dad is about the funniest person on the planet… especially when he sings in his Johnny Mathis voice or says the word “maraca”. Your dad’s playing a concert with your uncle Dan in a few weeks and they want you to play your maraca (you’re favorite toy ever) for their acoustic set.
