meet muscadine

This morning I. . .

Realized: That this is our last day on the island. Bitter to leave the sea, but so so sweet to finally see Jason again.

Watched: Storm clouds roll in until the whole sky was filled with gray, then sat under an umbrella on the beach and watched the sea grow. So peaceful.

Met: A jellyfish - my #1 least favorite of all sea creatures - while riding waves. It stung me on the hand, but it must have been a weakling or a new variety because the pain was gone within 15 minutes. If all jellyfish were so mild, I don't think I'd mind.

Ate: Muscadines. This peculiar little fruit tastes like a cross between a grape and a lime - very sour but yummy. It looks almost identical to a grape, but is much darker and has a tougher outer skin. We discovered them on the way to the beach actually. New ones drop every day and is has become a routine to collect and eat the new ones on the walk down to the ocean. I love them! If you ever get a chance to try one I definitely recommend it.

So Mississippi State has its own dairy plant, so we make our very own ice cream, and guess what?!...the top-selling ice cream is muscadine ripple!
