Remember back when we were refinishing that bedroom set mirror for our new half bath? Well, between coats of paint I decided to venture out to our local Goodwill for some treasure hunting... and what a treasure I found! It was marked for 39 but I ended up getting it for just 30 clams! 30!!! I was so pumped that (after fetching more spacious transportation) I brought that treasure home right away. I didn’t have any measurements on our current fireplace and had no measurements on this new addition I’d found. I didn’t really even have a plan on exactly how I would refinish it, but I did have a pretty good gut feeling about it along with a fabulous vision - and sometimes, those are the most important.
{proof of my steal of a price}
When I finally got up the courage to start painting with a brush, I realized pretty quickly that I was in it for the long haul. It took 4 coats of Behr’s Ultra Premium Plus (paint + primer in one) and somewhere around coat 2 I began to worry... when I came back to check on the drying process, I noticed a pale pinkish haze starting to develop on areas where the paint was a bit thicker and still wet. All I can figure is that, perhaps due to not enough dry-time between coats, the part of the color from the stain on the original wood was rising to the surface creating the eery pink haze. The good news is that 2 coats and PLENTY of dry-time later, I think all our efforts were well worth the results.

{fresh from the thrift store}
{i warn you, details like these are so lovely, but a thorough nightmare to paint!}
{after... still some paint to be scraped off the edges of the mirror, but certainly not too shabby}
