colored water

True Story: Of all the things I love about this new place of ours, one that I’ve been looking forward to the most is the one very large jacuzzi tub in our master bath. It was filled with boxes for the better part of the weekend - or should I the worst part... because really, how good can a weekend be without a usable bathtub? So you can imagine my excitement when J called me up yesterday to let me know that it had been cleaned and was ready for use. Best. Husband. Ever. Well I knew something was wrong the minute I walked through the door... and boy was I right. I was picturing bubbles and steam. Instead I walked into a tub filled with brown water. Oh yea. We’re talkin’ sewage water brown. The thought actually crossed my mind to take a picture for proof, then I decided to spare you... I’ll never look at bath water quite the same.

Disclaimer: We have no idea if there is actually any sewage at all involved in this problem... we googled it, and apparently this could be a plethora of causes. One source said it could actually be a rusted hot water tank, which is actually quite exciting. Our hot water tank is about 20 years old at this point and if it dies in the next year then it’ll still be covered under warranty. You wouldn’t believe the tragedy we’ve been wishing on our hot water tank. Almost makes brown bath water exciting. Almost.

I have to say, you could never realize how much you love hot water until it’s gone... err, brown. Today I am blogging from the couch, under a blanket, sneezing incessantly. I would love to take a hot shower. Not happening. I would love to be drinking some hot tea. Not a chance. I would love be able to use the miraculous Netti Pot. Not thinking brown salt water in the sinus cavity is quite the cure I’m looking for. To think that some people don’t have clean water period is unbelievable. How do people function?! It’s crazy how what a lot of people would consider luxuries have become staples in our culture. So in between my whining about brown water (and 12% water pressure, and no counters, and boxes everywhere, and a washer and dryer that aren’t working, and 20 million half finished projects) and sneezing, I’m feeling pretty thankful that I’m just now realizing what life would be like without all these little things that I seem to have taken for granted approximately 23 years now. I will never think of a hot bath the same way again.

PS. I know I’ve been slackin’ big time on the picture updates! Coming soon... the updated downstairs walk-through, closet before and afters, half-bath before and afters, and what we’ve done with this find.
