a nice finish

Before I dive right in to our most recent before-and-after photos, an update on the counters:

Measuring for “Kashmir” was not as simple as planned. I got a call this morning that we may need to find a 2nd favorite because our counters couldn’t be made out of just one slab of granite. It turns our that we have a beast of a counter (hallelujah for counter space!) which makes things difficult when you have fallen in love with just one slab of granite and there are no others to match it. It’s like finding the perfect shoe that just one side too small - gut wrenching. However, thanks to the awesome people at Granite Dealer LLC, this story is looking like it may have a happy ending after all. It took a quick trip to the warehouse this afternoon, a lot of "puzzle working” aka finagling with our counter template, and things started looking up... a major relief... It’s quite strange how attached we’ve become to a large piece of rock!

. . .

Now, on to the proof of my productivity. My focus today was refinishing light fixtures, which sounds pretty simple. And it is. Until you start getting into electrical business. Oh, and I may add that for my general lack of caution, I’m major intimidated by electricity. Perhaps it’s the stories that my parents always told me when I was a kid of “what could happen if...” or maybe it’s the flashbacks of my little brother cutting the electrical cord of a living room lamp with a pair of scissors. Whatever the reason for my extreme caution, I am happy to say that today I overcame my fear of all those colored cords and copper wiring, and buddied up with our breaker box... I’m thinking the results were well worth it!

{before: a little too blingin’ for our taste}

{after: nothing drastic, and still wanting to replace that globe, but haven’t found them sold separately... yet}

{before: in the master bathroom}

{just as unpleasant, only a little less of it}

{after: removed the mirror, spray painted the brassy part, bought new glass shades}

{after: just as attractive, only more of it}

And now... presenting my favorite transformation of the day...

{before}

{after: the total cost of this one? just three dollars...}
