project pantry

The other day it occurred to me that we will need a place to put our food once we move, which would logically be the pantry. Only problem (other than the sickly yellow of the door, trim, walls, and shelving) is that our new pantry had been the hot-spot for all neighborhood spiders to come and die. Oh yes, we found piles of them. Growing up with boys, I developed a pretty high bug tolerance, however this was enough to make me squeamish... even worse is that the majority of them were brown recluse spiders. I know, I know! I cannot begin to describe the fervor with which I cleaned... then sprayed and painted and laid flooring (whew!). So the coast is now clear of all 8 legged creatures - and of all sickly yellow paint =)

Goes to show what a big change a little white paint can make! We are huge fans of white closets and cupboards for 2 main reasons:
1. White is the best possible option to make a small space appear larger (and who doesn’t want a bigger closet?)
2. Because white reflects light, it brightens these small spaces making a little light go a long way.

It only makes sense! We also opted to get wire shelving in place of the wooden shelving that was there before - easier to keep clean, easier to find things hiding in the back, and lets in more light. Who knew that a once-upon-a-time spider cemetery could clean up this good!
