welcome to the jungle

We’ve been so focused on the inside of our new place that the outside has been on the back-burner... all the while looking more like a jungle by the day. See for yourself:

{The house was vacant for almost 2 years before we bought it, so the backyard has had plenty of time to become overgrown beyond belief... even my grandmother, the green thumb, couldn’t identify some of the wild things growing back there. I have this rule of thumb when it comes to plants... if I have to water it, then I’d better be able to eat it! That eliminates about 80% of our backyard.}

{and this is one of those wild things that I can’t wait to take out... those, my friends, are 2 inch thorns and this lovely thing is covered with them}

{another thing I can’t wait to take out is this old fence blocking an amazing view}

{we found this little hidden gate the other day... doesn’t it look fabulous out there!?}

{along with every other plant that just sprung to life is the dogwood out back... love}

{Also recently discovered in amongst the jungle out back... a Forsythia - perhaps one of my favorite bushes ever. It’s a late bloomer, but better late than never. This one will certainly be staying!}

PS. If anyone out there is interested in ceramic garden gnomes (or ceramic children, or ceramic frogs, or ceramic anything else that you could possibly imagine) then please come visit... and take mine. No really. Please.
