the safe solution

Before we moved in, one of the big attention-getters in the kitchen was not a bay window with a gorgeous view or a large island with a ton of cooking space. Oh no, it was the giant safe, mounted into the wall. I think ideally, this is supposed to be covered by a large picture or something. Unfortunately, we weren’t really feeling the big picture vibe in this spot. It just seemed a little dramatic for an area that we had planned on being a cozy little sitting area.

{Bam. Boy is it a doozy with that paint color... I almost forgot how bad it was. Almost.}

{Thankfully, we had this little mirror handy. You may remember it from a few months back... came with our bedroom set... I refinished it... used to be a matte black... anyway, it fit over the safe perfectly - not an inch to spare! Unfortunately, the wall was still too large for just the mirror so we started envisioning a collection of all different sized, different shaped frames in white. This is where we learned an easier way a hang a collection of pictures... it also offers an explanation for the grocery adds on our wall.}

{See!? That’s the beauty of the method... you can move them around all day long with no consequences, aka holes in your wall. We changed the arrangement a few time ourselves.}

My additional pieces of advice (that weren’t mentioned in the ehow) are as follows:

1. Put all your pictures in your frames before you begin so you know which you want be vertical and which you want to be horizontal. I’m big on matching the picture to the frame too.
2. Instead of cutting templates out of newspaper, try grocery adds like ours... no smudges on fingers or more importantly, the wall.
3. Label each template so you know which need to be vertical and which need to be horizontal.

{and the pretty end result - a collection of old family photos mixed with an eclectic piece or two}

{Meet the family! These people are my mother in-law’s parents on their wedding day... wish so badly I could have met these sweet people}

{My dad’s mom a dad... Poppa went to heaven 14 years ago. He played the upright bass, put hot sauce in his oatmeal, and could fix/build anything. Granny is bubbly, has this charming way of bringing out the best in people, and can turn any trash into a treasure.. I think she’s where I get my love for treasure hunting}

{this is my father-in-law’s parents in the middle, and each of their set of parents on either side...}

{and this is Memomma and Dedaddy. Memomma is as spunky as can be, has a huge heart, and a green thumb... I’m still trying to get her to teach me her gardening skills. Dedaddy is quite a firecracker... he was in the navy in his younger years and quite studly as you can see}

{Jason’s mom and dad on their wedding day... I’m so lucky to have these people as my in-laws and thankful for all they’ve done in shaping such an incredible fella}

{Here are my mom and dad they were dating. My mom is the most talented person I know... an incredible artist, a wonderful listener and one of my dearest friends. She had me when she was just 20 and dedicated the next 18 years of her life to giving me the best education I could have asked for. She taught me how to sew, plant, cook, paint, and be proud of exactly who I am. My dad - just like poppa - can build anything and has this knack for making everyday life feel as fun as Disney World. He’s the most loving, encouraging, selfless guy in the world and I got lucky enough to have him as a dad. These are my heros.}

{and here is a pear sticker that I put in a cut-out of some craft paper and stuck a frame... just to keep things from getting too serious =) }
