When a creative idea strikes I’m usually not in a convenient place... like at work, in the car, in bed, in the shower... you get the idea. Well today the stars aligned and I happened to get my idea in the paper isle of Michael’s. And as it turned out my luck didn’t stop there. Michael’s was having a huge sale on frames - the very item I needed for this little project of mine. What a lucky day indeed!
I started with this frame and took out all the backing and glass. This one’s 9x14 and was about $9.
{You can’t tell so much in this picture, but the frame has a nice, rough texture that made it per-fect for this little project of mine.}
This is what it looked like after I gave it more a gray finish...
After that I decided to warm it up a bit with some yellow using the same technique...
{I dipped my brush in some acrylic paint then submerged it in water before painting a section. I did this with the gray layer as well, just all over instead of in small sections. After painting a section I immediately wiped it off with a paper towel.}
And this is what it looked like after... I could’ve continued layering colors to give it a more rustic feel, but decided to keep it somewhat simple this time around...
And I give you the finished product! Well... almost finished...
I cut some scrapbook paper to fit the frame then put glass and cardboard backing back into the frame...
{And voila! Introduce a dry-erase marker and we now have a great little place to write notes and make lists}
And when we’re ready for a new message, the glass wipes clean with a dry cloth! See?
Best of all, we can change out the paper background whenever we’re ready for something new! Much more stylish than a dry-erase board, don’t ya think!?
