I discovered this little guy about a month ago, growing wild, just behind our fence:
Which gave me the idea - if this little fella was so happy, growing without any assistance, then why not plant dozens of them in same vicinity? Our fence has long seen better days and will be coming down any day now, so why not replace it with a sunflower fence! Temporarily, of course. Sunflowers aren’t much use for keeping in pets and kiddos (neither of which we have at the moment).
So that’s my next-summer plan - the sunflower fence that is.
But back to this guy. As much as a wanted to nab him up the moment I saw him, I decided to exercise self-control and let him see a few more sunny, summer weeks before I plopped him a mason jar and displayed him proudly on the coffee table. Well, when I went out today to see how he was lookin’ I found that some greedy neighbor had beat me to it. The poor guy wasn’t even full grown!
Have a heart, you Bartlett dwellers you...
